AUGUST

I don't know about you, but it feels like I just wrote the last update! While every week feels like a race, I am very happy to say that I've been some progress every day.

Here's what I'm celebrating this month:

  • Kinfolk Nutrition will be in network with United Healthcare beginning September 4th.
  • Infinity Mental Health is now a referral partner! I met the owner, Angela White, and I'm very excited to partner with her and her team to better serve our clients.
  • I've drafted a month out of linkedin posts. For any social media marketers out there, I salute you. 😮‍💨 For the rest of you, you can read more when you follow!
  • Also, my first review on Healthgrades was submitted this week, and... well... 🥹

I love what I do.

the thing about smoothies

I had a client tell me that they don't drink smoothies because smoothies cause diabetes. 😱

No, no, no, no.

Here's the thing, a lot of the popular smoothie spots and the ASMR smoothie making shorts on socials are full of carbohydrates and natural sugars: fruit, non-dairy milks, honey, agave, etc. This stuff makes smoothies taste great!

Do they cause diabetes? NO.

However, if you are having a lot of smoothies, replacing meals with them AND not balancing them out with enough protein and fat, your blood sugar is much more likely to be spiking and crashing out like your favorite roller coaster from when you were a teen.

So, for you, I'm sharing my smoothie building guide that includes the essentials:

Liquid Base + Protein + Fat + Fruit/Veggies

It also includes some bonus ingredients that can spice up the flavor and provide some healing nutrients.

Enjoy! 😊

the pantry

Here me out. 🫣

While I've been in a busier season, I've been trying to take my own advice:

KEEP IT SIMPLE

So, my current go to:

  • 1/2 - 1 can of tuna mixed with
  • 1/4 cup tzatziki (Trader Joe's FTW) paired with
  • 1 slice of toast or 1 serving of crackers and a
  • handful of fruit (about a 1/2 cup)

It's delicious, and nutritionally speaking, I love it because whether I go for a smaller portion or meal, it's balanced. It's higher in protein (tuna), has a decent amount of fat (primarily from the yogurt and tuna, but also olive oil), and an amount of carbs that isn't going to put you back on the blood sugar roller coaster.

Try it before you give me a thumbs down? 🫣

upcoming

Kinfolk Table Talk - Join me for the first gathering on Friday, September 18 at 12pm ET. Once a month I'll be hosting a lunch where you BYOF (bring your own food) and for the first half you'll receive nutrition education, and the last half you can AMA (ask me anything) as long as it can be generally applied.
